Our Lakota name, Anpo Wicahpi, means Morning Star. Despite the numerous challenges of living on a rural reservation, our girls continue to surpass all expectations, shining bright and becoming strong Lakota katela winyan, warrior women, each day. Since our first year in 2016, we have more than doubled enrollment and are on track to graduate our historic first class of college-bound Lakota women in 2022, ready to serve and represent their community and beyond. And because Pine Ridge Girls School is tuition-free, and does not receive Federal or State funding, we couldn’t have done it without you. Pilamayaye!

Meeting Academic Goals

Our students take the NWEA MAPS test three times a year. Before attending PRGS, 92% of new students were two or more years behind in math and reading, At PRGS they have made significant progress, with 44% of our girls now proficient in both math and reading.

We were founded on and rooted in the culture, values and traditions of the Oglala Lakota Nation, which has a positive impact on education. The seven Lakota Values are a way of life that grounds our students in their journey to adulthood and provides a lasting sense of kinship among our girls.
